Making Corn Paste is an Alternative to Compound Feedstuff and Flaked Corn
Source: Progressive Agrarian Technologies
The word «paste» usually means a mix of grain flour. The use of the extruded paste became very popular after it was explored that net energy value of ground corn is 10-15% higher than of compound feedstuff.
Harvesting Corn
Corn is harvested with a forage harvester when the corn grain has reached physiological maturity and a grain moisture level is about 30-50%. If moisture level is lower, one should add water to paste to avoid difficulties during feed tamping.
It is important to thresh grain while harvesting to prevent fermentation and toxin formation.
The recommended harvest time for corn is the end of October and the beginning of November. The optimal temperature is 2-10 °С.
