Cystic ovary in dairy cows

The ovarian cyst — is a pathological cavity, which is formed in the ovary from anovulatory graafian vesicle or yellow bodies as a result of the liquid accumulation in them.

Foreign authors recommend to name “the ovarian cyst” newly formed cavities which are more than 25 mm in diameter. But cysts can have a smaller diameter, especially in the post-calving period in fresh cows. They ca be diagnosed together with a yellow body of the same or opposite ovary.

There was a case in our practice when a yellow body of excellent quality was diagnosed in ovary of incalver and a cyst with a diameter of about 5 cm in the another ovary.
