“Mayak”: 6 milkmaids milk 22 tons of milk per day

Success Secrets

Olexii Vasylchenko: “To learn, we had to visit a lot of companies, both in Ukraine and abroad. The things we have seen we introduced in our country. But we did not blindly copy, but reassessed the terms and adapted to our farm.

The company is growing without any loans, and therefore not as fast as it could. Profit is invested in equipment, facilities, genetic material, because without the development today we will become uncompetitive tomorrow”.

Pitfalls

Lack of technology, not only because of efforts to reduce the cost of equipment or renovation, is one of the dangers. For example: one Ukrainian farm has set modern equipment and established loose cows housing, but milk yields have fallen. Why? Because the barn is calculated incorrectly. The beds are too close to the wall, so it is uncomfortable for the cows to lie. Besides, when there is not enough space between the beds and a manger, animals crowd in the aisle, and if there are not enough drinking-trough, cow drink less.

This often happens where the owner does not understand the way the enterprise works and has no control over it. The key to success is in permanent presence of the manager. If you do not visit barns, control the technology and strive for self-perfection, then none will do it for you.

In my farm we organize everything ourselves. When I started work, I lived on a farm for two months to see how it works.

Technologies should not be only implemented but also maintain and monitor, otherwise the staff can change them beyond recognition.
