Maslosoyuz — the legend of dairy case

In the early twentieth century, the Union of Russian Dairy Association, later renamed as the National dairy maslosoyuz successfully operated in Galicia, its production was revered not only in Western, but also in many European countries.

History of dairy industry in Ukraine is replete with interesting facts and examples, which can learn modern dairy farm owners. Hard to believe, but a hundred years ago the butter produced in Galicia, the label of which was four-leaf clover and letters MS - symbols of Maslosoyuzu, was served for breakfast not only in Europe, it was exported to Germany, England, France, Italy, Holland, Denmark, Czechoslovakia and even in Palestine. Europe loved that butter.

Origin and the First World War

Maslosoyuz - the legendary Dairy Corporation, now is almost forgotten, developed, compared with other sectors of the Galician Ukrainian cooperation, faster. First of all, thanks to systematic planning and organizational development, as well as, to the relentless hard work of its founders and leaders.

Future dairy cooperation began its activity at branch company «Prosvita» in Stryi in early 1900, but the date of the establishment of Maslosoyuz as separate unit accounted in 1907. The main founders and leaders of dairy cooperation of those times were considered famous public and cooperative figure Eugene Olesnytskyi, also priest, composer and choral conductor Ostap Nyzhankivskyi and Greek Catholic priest Lion Horalevych (more about establishing of Maslosoyuz read in «MaF» № 10).

Cooperation began with dairy plants under rural purchasing and marketing associations. Then dairy plants were small processing plants where farmers donated milk. These structures took no more than 200-400 liters of milk daily. Then it was processed into butter. Such dairy plant produced only 4 kilograms of butter per day.
